Visiting Rome

Journeying to Rome is a lifetime's dream for many individuals. Having just been there, here are a few pointers to make your trip a dream and not a nightmare .

Eleven Great Things About Rome

1. Breakfast included. What a way to wake up and notice that you have a breakfast smorgasboard waiting for you downstairs. Europeans have the mistaken idea that all Americans eat eggs, bacon, four kinds of toast, 5 kinds of pastry, six kinds of fruit, 7 sorts of cold cuts and eights kinds of coffee. Don't tell them otherwise!

2. Unlimited minibar. I don't know how dispersed this practice is, but both hostels we stayed in offer all-you-can-drink minibars with lager, water and sodas. No serious alcohol or wine. "You drink. We fill it up. Peculiar, but true," declared the hotel check-in person.

t3. The sites : Coliseum, Vatican, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain. You have heard about them for some time. They are better in person. And if you book an Apartamento Roma for sure you are going to explore and enjoy the city.

4. Meats. Italians understand how to cure meat.

5. Coffee. Starbucks doesn't hold a candle to the folks that invented the word cappuccino.

6. DK books. Absolutely the best .

7. Bullet trains that go 200 MPH.

8. Art and history. Though too much of a good thing can be too much.

9. Travel off season. Sidestep the crush. Avoid the heat. Bring an umbrella. We were given into the Vatican Museums with no line and were at the Sistine Chapel in a timely fashion with few bottlenecks.

10. Unlimited bus passes. Get on. Get off. Make a mistake? No problems. Get on another bus.

11. Fresh-squeezed blood oranges. Yumbo. Second choice : blood oranges.

Six Bad Things About Rome

1. Cab drivers. Get a confirmed fare before you get in or you'll be taken for a ride. No pun intended.

2. Cheats. Check the addition on your restaurant bill. More than one purveyor added things that shouldn't have been there. One jerk attempted to charge us twenty-two Euros for a piece of lasagne that was obviously marked six euros.

3. Beggars. Rather than pronouncing "grazi" they say "more."

4. Absence of holiday maker destination signs. They are never there when you need them.

5. Pizza and lasagne. You can do better in the states. Avoid cheapo bistros.

6. Buying pizza by the pound, not the slice. Do you truly want to grasp you are eating 2 pounds of pizza? Hey, that might be an excellent idea for a diet.

If you try these pointers, you'll have a much better time! And if you book one of the most wonderfuls Apartamentos Roma you are going to get the most out of the city!
